Want to gain more peace and serenity in 2026 AND help MKTF in the process? Read on. . .

MBSR -- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction -- is the 'gold standard' mindfulness class developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn at The University of Massachusetts Medical School.  Originally developed to help patients with chronic pain cope with their suffering, the MBSR curriculum has been extensively researched and found helpful for participants in discovering practical tools for reducing stress and anxiety, managing difficult emotions, and finding greater peace in their daily lives.  The class focuses on practicing mindfulness— compassionate awareness of the present moment—in the classes and through at home practice sessions.  MBSR offers proven techniques to help participants develop resilience, emotional awareness, and lasting well-being.

Beginning Tuesday, February 3, and meeting weekly (virtually) for 2.5 hours for 8 weeks, certified MBSR instructor and a wonderful friend to Keep the Faith Bolivia will lead participants through guided meditations, discussions, daily mindfulness practices, and a half-day retreat.  Typically, the cost to enroll in an MBSR course can range from $300 to $850 -- however, my friend has committed to help KTFB fundraise for our (please insert whatever you are most fundraising for here) so this class will be offered on a 'pay what you will' basis, with all participant fees being a donation to Keep the Faith Bolivia.

As we begin 2026, consider investing in your mental health and inner peace -- better yet, take the class with a friend and commit together to a Mindful New Year.

Help Needed for Orphan Yhajaira Fuentes Zubieta

7/1/24

Yhajaira grew up in Hogar Sagrado Corazon, along with her two sisters. Both of their parents have died. On May 14, 2024, Yhajaira was involved in a very serious accident involving a motorcycle. In Bolivia, it is common to take a ride on a motorcycle like a taxi. Yhajaira was doing just that when the driver swerved, resulting in Yhajaira being thrown from the bike. Unfortunately, Yhajaira landed on her skull. She suffered brain swelling and was in a coma for over a week. She has already had one brain surgery, and is preparing for another. Thanks be to God, she is actually making good progress and the doctors do not see any permanent brain damage. That said, Yhajaira will have to do at least a year of both cognitive and physical therapy.

Because Yhajaira needs serious care for her health right now and does not have any economic resources to secure it, Casa Nuevo Horizonte invited Yhajaira and her sister Maira to come live at the home as long as needed. Casa is also located near all of her doctors. We are helping to prepare Yhajaira for surgery which will likely happen in the next several weeks. We, along with a fund set up by former volunteers from Hogar Sagrado Corazon, have been footing the bill for all of her expenses. We have been blessed with expert medical support and guidance from Dr. Richard Moser of Solidarity Bridge. We remain hopeful and ask for your prayers and support for Yhajaira’s complete recovery.

We are so grateful to report that Yhajaira had her surgery and so far it appears to be a complete success. She is recuperating in the Mission home and continues to make more progress every day. Thank you to all who have been praying for her and donated to help defray her medical expenses.
